Untitled New Years Poem
by Juan Ramirez

The new year has come,
The old one has gone.
Our old lives are over,
A new ones begun.

We’ll look at ourselves
And say we’ll get slim.
And check our bank accounts
Before hitting the gym.

But what will really change?
Does it ever work out?
We’ll be the same as ever,
We’ll complain and we’ll pout.

But if you’re committed to change
Then I’ll take you to school.
So just listen closely
And follow these rules…

Never be cruel or cowardly,
As the Doctor always says.
And if you are,
Be sure to make amends.

Never give up
And never give in.
Being kind to each other
Is how you begin.

Start with these rules,
They’ll be your foundation.
But don’t let that stop you
From using your imagination.

That’s all I got for now,
I’m not trying to preach.
I’ve just learned a few things
That I’m trying to teach.

Now let’s all have some fun,
Our friends are all here.
Let’s all get home safe
And have a Happy New Year!
